Drama unfolded at the Furaha City Festival on December 7, 2024, sparking heated conversations about artist treatment and regional support. Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz was slated to perform but left fans disappointed when expectations fell short.

Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi didn't hold back. He called out event organizers for prioritizing international acts over Kenyan talent, highlighting deep-rooted issues in the local music scene.

Eric Omondi’s post highlighted the struggles Kenyan artists face at such events, claiming they receive unequal treatment compared to their international counterparts. He lamented that Kenyan musicians often lack VIP accommodations and backstage privileges enjoyed by other artists.

The comedian also recalled his activism, including being teargassed and arrested while advocating for fair treatment and pay for Kenyan artists.

Diamond's Response

Following Eric's remarks, Diamond Platnumz responded, backed by other artists who spoke out after the concert.

Diamond Platnumz Responding

In response, Diamond called for collaboration among East African artists and dismissed Eric’s criticisms as counterproductive.

“My brother Eric, success does not come by hating others but by putting in effort and letting God bless you,” Diamond wrote.

He reminded Eric of the warm receptions he received while headlining shows in Tanzania and highlighted the collaborative efforts in his home country that nurture talent across various industries.

Diamond emphasized the importance of fostering love and cooperation instead of resentment. He pointed out how teamwork has helped Tanzanian artists and comedians succeed on regional and international platforms.

The exchange between Eric Omondi and Diamond Platnumz reignited discussions about equity in the East African entertainment industry and the need for systemic changes to support local talent.

But the question remains: Is it time for a new chapter where local talent thrives equally alongside international stars?
